US foreign direct investments in Tunisia reach 1 billion dollars in 2009

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- In October 2008 there were 60 American companies operating in Tunisia, one year later they are 70 enterprises who have directly invested nearly 1 billion dollars and generated some 18,000 employments.

The vast majority of American companies are active in the sector of energy, ICT’s and exporting manufacturing industries. As an example, the US energy group “Pioneer” invested some 89, 6 million dollars in 2008 and is expected to invest an additional 53 million dollars in 2009.

According to a survey released in 2008 by the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce (TACC), 89% of American companies operating in Tunisia are satisfied with the profitability of their business, as well as with working conditions.

78% of the companies also said that they will not hesitate to recommend other US companies to invest in Tunisia.
