Benetton expands its operations in Tunisia
Tunis, October 28, 2008- Europe’s largest textile clothing supplier, Benetton, is expanding its operations in Tunisia.
Following the setting up a plant in Kasserine employing 75 people and which serves some 20 subcontracting firms with a current workforce of 2000, the group has decided to set up several exclusively exporting unit in Gafsa, Southern Tunisia.
With an investment of 280,000 dinars, the first new unit is already operational. It has a workforce of 40, and will provide work for 4 subcontracting units.
Three further units are in the pipeline and will soon open in the greater Gafsa region, respectively in Metlaoui, Laguila and Mdhila, providing jobs to 340 people and necessitating investments worth 800,000 dinars. Production in these 3 units is expected to start in November 2008.
Based in Tunisia since 1994, the group is also planning to open an additional 10 other subcontracting units in the Gafsa area by the end of 2009.
