Tunisia adheres to “Blue Med” Civil Aviation project
Tunis, November 5, 2008- Following its participation to the “Blue Med“ ministerial conference in Rome on November 4,2008 , Tunisia has adhered to the “Blue Med” civil aviation project , involving the creation of functional airspace blocks in the south eastern zone of the Mediterranean area.
Transport ministers of the European community, as well as those of Albania, Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, Malta and Tunisia took part in the conference.
In the course of the event, the ministers signed “a Declaration of the ad hoc meeting of the Blue Med Ministers of Transport”.
Mr Abderrahim Zouari, Tunisia’s Minister of transport who led the Tunisian delegation to the conference, stressed that Tunisia’s adhesion to the project will enable it to reduce flight times, as well as reducing energy costs. The project which involves among other things, the creation of direct routes, will also increase air traffic between Tunisia and foreign destinations, he said.
In a related event, Mr Zouari held meetings with Mr Matteoli Altero, Italy’s Minister of transport, as well as with Mr Gilberto Galloni, the chairman of “Europlatforms” Association.
