H1N1 virus: preventive measures taken to protect Tunisian sportsmen
TUNISIAONLINENEWS- During a meeting held on Thursday in Tunis, the Secretary of State in charge of Sports, Mr Bechir Louzir stressed the importance of sensitizing Tunisian sportsmen and sportswomen to take preventive measures against the spread of the A1H1 virus especially during their travels abroad.
Mr. Louzir who met with the presidents of Tunisian sports federations recommended that all Tunisian sportsmen be vaccinated against the virus.
Should contamination occur said Mr Louzir, all known procedures should be applied to stop the propagation of the virus, including the calling off of sports competitions if need be.
In Tunisia there are 3200 cases reported. The virus has claimed so far 18 casualties, mostly among people with risk factors. 150,000 people have so far been vaccinated against the virus, including 10,000 pregnant women.
According to recent statistics released by the World Health Organisation, (WHO) the virus has so far claimed the lives of more than 12,000 people throughout the world.
