Tunisia takes preventive measures against H1N1 virus

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- During a press conference held on Monday on assessing the A H1N1 epidemiological situation and the spread of the virus during the winter season, the Director General of Health and Director General the National Observatory of Emergent and Re-Emergent Diseases, Mr. Mohammad Al Kouni, said that in order to preven the virus from spreading, all necessary precautionary measures had been taken by the competent services and that the A H1N1 flu vaccine is available in sufficient quantities.

During the press conference it was called on people suffering from cardiovascular, kidney, lung, diabetic diseases, and pregnant women, to consult with their doctors to direct them to the vaccination centres.

100 thousand doses were imported from a total of 700 thousand scheduled. Tunisia is one of the first countries in the world to order the vaccine.

Recent statistics show that the number of those infected with the virus until November 15, 2009 increased to 338 cases including two casualties.

The largest number of cases is in schools (201) a census shows about two-thirds of cases are in Tunis (215), Nabeul (38) Sfax (28) and Bizerte (14).

A timetable has been set up for the vaccination of priority persons during the winter season, said Mr. Al kouni.
